Flippa Ball and Water Polo draw for 18.08.10

The Muritai Flippa Ball team would be playing Kelson in a B grade semi final but they have defaulted.

Muritai Water Polo team are playing St Orans on court 4 at 4:35.
Good luck for the game.

Please read the information below regarding games this week and next week.
For many teams, the game on 18th August will be their last for the 2010 season. Thank you for your participation in our competition and for giving your students the opportunity to play Flippa Ball or Water Polo in a competitive setting.

GRADE RANKINGS
Overall rankings in each Grade are determined firstly by points accumulated in general rounds and then by points gained in Championship rounds. [Only if your Grade had them.] These results and points have been shown on our website www.huttwaterpolo.org.nz throughout the competition. Some Grade’s game’s results on the 18th August, determine their final ranking. This is shown in RED on this week’s draw.

SEMI FINAL GAMES
If your team is in a Semi this week,[shown in RED on this week’s draw], then the result of this game determines whether you play in the Final or Playoff [3rd/4th] on 25th August. Because of this, a winner is required. Should the game be tied at the final ‘hooter’, then the referee will NOT blow their whistle but keep the game going until a goal is scored. The game will finish then.It is important this is explained to coaches, players and parents so it is fully understood.

FINALS NIGHT: 25th August
Only 4 teams from each Grade will play on the Finals Night on 25th August. The Final [1st/2nd] and the Playoff [3rd/4th] will be labelled in RED on the draw. The Finals draw for 25th August will be on the web www.huttwaterpolo.org.nz on Thursday or Friday following this week’s games.

TROPHY WINNERS 2009
Could the following schools please return the trophies they won in 2009, with your school’s name and 2009 engraved on them. Please hand them to an organiser at the Hutt Club table on 18th August.
Flippa Ball Grades: Eastern Hutt School, Pomare, Hutt Central, Epuni
Intermediate Grades: HIBS, HIBS, OLR
Junior Secondary: HVHS
Senior Secondary: HIBS
If you have any other trophies related to Water polo or Flippa ball, could these also be returned.

Thank you for your support this season
Hutt Water Polo.

Urgent Tackle Rugby Notice!!

The Tackle Rugby Tournament has now been postponed unitl Thursday due to the grounds being too wet to play.

Building up a sweat

As a finale to this week the year 7/8 students have had the opportunity to participate in an indoor sports competition. This involved students being mixed into teams and competing against each other in a variety of different indoor sports. It was fantastic to see all the students running around and participating in the wide array of available options.

Junior Duathlon

Year 0-2 Junior Duathlon

9th August 2010

Dear Parents and Caregivers,

The Muritai School Junior Duathlon which is a run and bike race (or scooter if they do not know how to ride a bike) will be held at Muritai School on Monday 16th August. If the weather is not good there will be a postponement date for Tuesday 7th September. The duathlon will be an enjoyable event with the focus being on positive participation and being active.

Each student will be timed on the completion of his or her race. They will be place ranked within their year and gender group.

On Race Day:

On race day, between 8.00 am and 8.40 the children will store their bikes and their helmets alongside the Green Room and PE Shed wall near their class number cone.

Children are grouped in year levels and genders. The maximum amount of children partaking in a race is 12 students.

Year 0-1 students will run approximately 300 metres. The route will be outside the school gates by the school library, past the fire station, past the bus stop then back into the school gates by the school pedestrian crossing. Year 2 students will run approximately 350 metres starting at the entrance gate near the big school playground. We will have marshals along the route with first aid kids available if necessary. Once the runners enter the gates by Room 16, a teacher will assist them to get their bike from the bike stand, put their helmet on and bike around the field, towards the deck, around the deck and through the finish line, which will be on the netball court. On completion of the race, the children will push their bike to the middle of the field where they will be stored in class groups until they are taken home at the end of the day. We will ensure their bikes & helmet do not get touched during the day.

Races will start with the Year 0’s, then Year 1’s then Year 2’s. There will be 11 races in total starting at 9.00 to 10.30. Parents and families are welcome to come and support the children in this event. Please stand in the coned area in the middle of the court away from the racetrack.

Please make sure that your child has sensible clothing, footwear and a drink bottle.

If you are able to help with the event by being a ‘marshal ‘(e.g. giving directions to runners and ensuring safety) please email me cody@muritai.school.nz with your name, child’s name and year group by this Wednesday August 11th.

Thank you for your support

Tackle Rugby Tournament Newsletter
Greater Wellington Primary Schools Rugby Union

Newsletter #1

Dear Parents / Caregivers

There is a Year 5/6 full tackle rugby tournament at Fraser Park on Tuesday 17 August.
Your child has expressed an interest in participating in the tournament.
We can enter several (10 a-side) teams with a squad of no more than 15. We need to know who can play so we can put together and enter teams. Please return the form below as soon as possible.
The tournament begins at 9:30am, and should be over by 2:30pm. We will need to leave school at 8:50am, and will hopefully be back by the end of school. However, to be sure, children who catch the bus on this day should organise alternative transport.

In order for your child to attend we need your permission.
Transport to Fraser Park will be by bus. We ask that your child brings $2 to help cover the cost of the bus.
As we may have more children than we need for the teams we can enter, priority will be given to those who return forms promptly.

The games will be run under the NZRU Primary Schools rules (i.e. no lifting in line-outs and no pushing in scrums at all for Year 5/6)

Participants must be members of the eligible age group (i.e. Year 5/6 teams must have players who are in Year 5/6). There is a maximum weight limit for the tackle grades:
• Year 5/6 - 50 kg or less
Girls may play in a boy’s team so long they are of the eligible weight and have tackle rugby experience.
Players will randomly and upon request, have their weight checked by WRFU Officials during the Day.

All players should have the following equipment:
• Mouth guard (Compulsory)
• Rugby Jerseys, shorts and socks (supplied by school)
• Warm clothing to wear when not playing
• Boots (Needed due to grounds)
• Drink
• Lunch
All personal items should be named.

In the event of adverse weather, the tournament will be postponed to Thursday 19 August. Cancellation / postponements for both days will be on Newstalk ZB (1035 kHz) from 7:00am.

Please contact Peter Hull at school if you have any questions. Email (hull@muritai.school.nz) is generally the best method. Email responses to this notice are also fine, but please include all the information requested below.

Thank you for your support.

While Muritai did not come away with the winners cup (Eastern Hutt did), we did come away with the 'Fair Play award'. Well done to all players, it was a spectacular event.
A very special thanks to Miss Edwards who passed on her expertise to many of the players, and to the many parents who turned up to support and supervise the teams.

Update from Hutt Water Polo and Flippa Ball

HI all

The Hutt Water Polo and Flippa Ball school leagues swim off on Wednesday, 21 July – check out the draw on www.huttwaterpolo.org.nz We are heading into the business end of this great competition when the intensity levels pick up from players, coaches, mangers and spectators.

It’s important to remember a few basic things:
All players need to pay $2 cash at Naenae reception before entering the facility.
Please ask your players to remove all watches, wrist bands, necklaces, piercings, tee shirts etc. before entering the water.
Please have a parent seated at the scoring table at the beginning of your game.
Please have your team ready to start on time wearing the correct hats (if in doubt on your teams hat colour, check the draw displayed poolside)
Coaches and players must remain behind the 2 metre cone at all times during the game.
Interchanges can happen at any time from the team’s corner of the pool and only when the player being replaced has reached his/her corner of the pool behind the 2m cone.
Only those named players from your school, on the Official Team List, can play for your team. If unregistered players play in any game, a default will automatically be recorded.
The official default process is clearly set out at the bottom of each and every draw.
All communications for this comp are to be sent to naenaecomp@huttwaterpolo.org.nz

We welcome positive poolside behavior. If any coach or manager has a query, please approach the Pool Control table. It is totally inappropriate for any coach, manager, parent or spectator to approach a referee during or immediately after a game. Again, queries are welcome at the Pool Control table.

Regards

Run run as fast you can...

Yesterday the year 7/8 Hutt Valley Interzone Cross Country finally took place on a slightly soggy Trentham ground. As always this event was only possible with the help of the parents who provided that much needed transport.

Muritai had 23 runners brave the conditions and show what they can do. It was amazing seeing all the students achieving the best that they could be. Notably Georgia who came second, Kenzy and Clara who came 5th and lastly Scott and Ryan who came 8th and 9th respectively. Excellent effort guys.

Our incredible Inter-Zone runners!

Wow! We have some very talented runners at Muritai and our year 4-6 Inter-Zone runners proved that on Monday the 14th of June at Richard Prouse Park.

It was a chilly morning and the event started a bit later in the day to let the grounds dry out.
Muritai had 6 runners running for Central Zone - here they are with the fantastic results:

Gus - 1st
Matthew - 1st
Grace - 11th
Jack - 5th
Maya - 2nd
Monica (who filled in for Ruby who was injured) - 30th.

Well done to the runners, you are all just amazing!
A special thanks to the parents who transported the runners and also helped to supervise.

Update from Hutt Water Polo and Flippa Ball

2010 Hutt Water Polo and Flippa Ball Schools Leagues Update at 14 June www.huttwaterpolo.org.nz

It’s great to see so many supporters poolside cheering on their teams this year as well as heaps of players having fun and enjoying themselves. The draws for 16 and 23 June are published on our web page. All teams have a bye on Wednesday, 30 June with the comp restarting in Term 3 on 21 July. Weekly results and points grids are also published on our web page. We have listed some pointers that might help teams over the next few weeks. Can all sports coordinators please pass this information on to their coaches, managers, players and parents.

All players need to pay $2 cash at Naenae reception before entering the facility.
Please ask your players to remove all watches, wrist bands, necklaces, piercings etc. before entering the water.
Caps are provided. They are reversible so you only need one cap out of any bucket around the pool.
It is a good idea to have your team arrive twenty minutes before game time. This gives them enough time to find the caps, to unknot them and tie them on, have a team talk and get ready to jump in. You will have two minutes after the hooter [signaling the end of the game before you], to warm up. The ref will blow the whistle thirty seconds before the start of your game so that six players and the goalie can line up ready for the swim off once the hooter has gone for your game.
PLEASE ask your children to unknot their caps before returning them to the bucket at the end of the game. Parents may like to help with this.
It is good to hear three cheers at the end of the game, practice a school version at training.
PLEASE ask a parent to sit at the score table during the game.
Coaches and players must remain behind the 2 metre cone at all times during the game.
Interchanges can happen at any time from the team’s corner of the pool and only when the player being replaced has reached his/her corner of the pool behind the 2m cone.
Ball Under – a player cannot take the ball under the surface of the water.
Off-Side – An attacker will be deemed offside (inside the 2m area) if the attacker enters the attacking 2m zone without the ball. If however, the ball carrier enters the 2m zone, an attacker is then allowed to enter as long as they remain behind the line of the ball carrier.
It is helpful if the players are learning the rules of the game. Flippa Ball Rules and Skills are published on NZWP www.waterpolo.org.nz (click on the frog)
The official default process is clearly set out at the bottom of each and every draw.
All communications for this comp are to be sent to naenaecomp@huttwaterpolo.org.nz Emails should not be sent to personal email addresses.

We welcome positive poolside behavior. If any coach or manager has a query, please approach the Pool Control table. It is inappropriate for any parent to approach a referee during or immediately after a game. Again, queries are welcome at the Pool Control table.

The Hutt Water Polo Club’s Registrations Days for the 2010-11 season are being held on 20 and 21 June. We welcome new players at all age grades.

Year 5 and 6 Super Flippa Ball Team!

Our super Flippa Ball team played very well again and won their first game of the evening - 9-3 (with no subs) Amazing!

And then had to play a second game!! And, only 5 players could stay on, so they played with 5!

They lost 8-5 against a full team with subs, but they played amazingly well, with Rupert, Gareth and Tane swimming the length of the pool to play both opposition and defence and each of them scoring amazing goals! Carlotta stuck like glue to her opponents and Rose had a first game in goal and did well to fend off the many shots that were thrown her way.

Well done team! You are stars.
And a very special thanks to the parent support!!

Super news!! Tane was awarded the Player of the Game award by the Hutt Water Polo Club and has been invited to 2 training sessions with the Junior Development Squad! Well done Tane!

Dear Parents/Caregivers

The Zone Cross Country for Year 4-6 students will be held on Wednesday the 26th of May at Connolly Street (Riverbank) Lower Hutt. The postponement date is Friday the 28th of May. Our teams have been chosen based on the results of year 4-8 crosscountry that was held on Thursday the 20th of may. Those who come in the top 10 at the Zone Cross Country will be selected for the Central Zone team to compete at the Inter-Zone Cross Country, which is planned for Tuesday the 8th of June.

We need to assemble at 9:30am for a 10:00am start. The last race is expected to finish by 12 noon, so we will need to leave school at 8:50am, and will be back at about lunchtime. Below is the approximate time of the races and the distances the children will run.

Year 4 Girls: 1100 m approx. 10:00am. Year 4 Boys: 1100 m approx. 10:15 am
Year 5 Girls: 1500 m approx. 10:30am. Year 5 Boys: 1500 m approx. 10:45am
Year 6 Girls: 1500 m approx. 11:00am. Year 6 Boys: 1500 m approx. 11:15am

Transport will be by bus, however if you would like to come and watch your child run, you will need to make your own way to the park. The organisers would like parents to assist with the running of the event. They have asked for us to provide 3 recorders. If you would like to assist, please indicate this on the form below when you return it to me.

Participants will need to bring:
• School shirts and sports shorts (provided).
• Running footwear (no spiked shoes)
• Water bottles and snacks
• Warm clothes and coats for before and after races – the area is exposed and can be cold in the wind

Children will have morning tea after their race. Please make sure that your child has a large drink because there are no water fountains available.

Please contact me if you have any questions. Email (hull@muritai.school.nz) is generally the fastest and most convenient method.

Thank you for your support
Peter Hull

Table Tennis Tournament

Yesterday, eight year 6 children (4 boys and 4 girls) went to a table tennis tournament at Waterloo School. The other schools that were there were: Wellesley, Waterloo (obviously), Eastern Hutt and St Peter and Paul.

The competition was hot! We don't know the results yet, but will find out soon.
We were also fortunate enough to have two ex-professional players giving us help and an amazing show of their skills - wonderful! What is even more amazing is that one of the ex-pro's is going to come to Muritai to do some skills work with some of our children.

The children that attended the tournament were: Xavier, Ryan, Flynn, Ben M, Zara, Daisy, Maddy and Lucy.
