Dear Parents/Caregivers

The Zone Cross Country for Year 4-6 students will be held on Wednesday the 26th of May at Connolly Street (Riverbank) Lower Hutt. The postponement date is Friday the 28th of May. Our teams have been chosen based on the results of year 4-8 crosscountry that was held on Thursday the 20th of may. Those who come in the top 10 at the Zone Cross Country will be selected for the Central Zone team to compete at the Inter-Zone Cross Country, which is planned for Tuesday the 8th of June.

We need to assemble at 9:30am for a 10:00am start. The last race is expected to finish by 12 noon, so we will need to leave school at 8:50am, and will be back at about lunchtime. Below is the approximate time of the races and the distances the children will run.

Year 4 Girls: 1100 m approx. 10:00am. Year 4 Boys: 1100 m approx. 10:15 am
Year 5 Girls: 1500 m approx. 10:30am. Year 5 Boys: 1500 m approx. 10:45am
Year 6 Girls: 1500 m approx. 11:00am. Year 6 Boys: 1500 m approx. 11:15am

Transport will be by bus, however if you would like to come and watch your child run, you will need to make your own way to the park. The organisers would like parents to assist with the running of the event. They have asked for us to provide 3 recorders. If you would like to assist, please indicate this on the form below when you return it to me.

Participants will need to bring:
• School shirts and sports shorts (provided).
• Running footwear (no spiked shoes)
• Water bottles and snacks
• Warm clothes and coats for before and after races – the area is exposed and can be cold in the wind

Children will have morning tea after their race. Please make sure that your child has a large drink because there are no water fountains available.

Please contact me if you have any questions. Email (hull@muritai.school.nz) is generally the fastest and most convenient method.

Thank you for your support
Peter Hull

Zone Soccer

The Year 5 and 6 Zone Soccer Tournament held at Sladden Park on Tuesday the 11th of May was awesome! The weather was spot on and the pitch was nice and green!

Muritai had 5 very enthusiastic teams, here's how they did...

* Muritai Storm - 11th place in the boys 'A' grade. The storm were not meant to be in this grade but were placed there to make up team numbers. These players did so well.
* Muritai Lizards - 4th place in the boys 'A' grade. What a star team these players were! So eager and very skillful!
* Muritai Bears - 4th in the boys 'B' grade. These guys went right through their games undefeated! They had so many draws! Well done!
* Muritai Eagles - 1st place in the boys 'B' grade! These guys were awesome! They just played so passionately! It paid off too! They also went through undefeated.
* Muritai Candy Canes - 6th place in the girls 'A' grade. These girls were having so much fun and a lot of skill was involved! Amazing players!!

A very special thanks to the players and to the parent support. Again, without the parents we just could not do these activities, thank you so much for your time and effort!

PLAYERS NOT TO SHARE DRINK BOTTLES
It has been brought to our attention that players are currently sharing drink bottles around the courts. Netball Hutt Valley along with the Ministry of Health ask clubs to encourage players to always bring their own drink bottles to training and games. There is a high risk of spreading disease through sharing drink bottles (particularly meningitis).
