Netball Zone Tournment

Last Tuesday 9th August our top Year 5 and 6 netball players participated at the annual Central Zone Netball Tournament held at the Taita Courts. Muritai entered 4 teams, each competing in their respective grades. There were mixed results with some great wins and the odd loss. Everyone involved gave it their all, representing Muritai with pride and a commitment to each and every challenge. What was obvious was the continual improvement of all the teams as the tournament progressed. Special congratulations goes to the Muritai Year 6 A team who finished second in their grade, the top division of the tournament. They will now go on to represent the Central Zone at an Inter-Zone competition held on Tuesday the 15th September. Also on behalf of all the players a big thank you to the parent helpers and coaches. Without these offers of transport and assistance with supervising teams such opportunities wouldn’t be possible.

ZONE CROSS COUNTRY RESULTS

Yesterday we took 60 of our finest Year 4-6 cross country runners to compete at the Central Zone Cross Country. The event was held along the riverbank near Connolly Street, Lower Hutt and was organised by Boulcott School. The track was very heavy underfoot and in some places was so muddy that it sucked the shoes off many of the runner's feet!

As always the Muritai team were amazing despite all being a little nervous before their races. They were very boisterous cheering in support while their peers were racing and greeted them on their return with high fives. Everyone in the team did their absolute best with many achieving personal goals.

Although we won 4 out of the 6 races we placed 3rd overall. This is an outstanding achievement and one the kids should feel very proud of. Special congratulations needs to go to the 11 runners who placed in the top ten and have now been selected to represent the Central Lower Hutt Team at the Inter-zone Cross Country on the 28th June. Those students and their placings are:

Y4 GIRLS: 1st = Macey Caughley, 7th = Ella Giles, 9th = Phoebe Evans.
Y4 BOYS: 4th = Andrew Sutcliffe, 7th Max Hahn.

Y5 GIRLS: 2nd = Charlotte Wilson, 9th = Grace Allan
Y5 BOYS: 1st = Jack Healy, 2nd = Liam Lamb

Y6 GIRLS: 1st = Maya Hahn

Cross Country Changes

Parents/Caregivers

Due to the weather we have made some changes to tomorrows school cross country. I apologise for any inconvenience this may cause but these decisions have been made to ensure the cross country is a positive experience for all the children.

The New Entrants and Y1-4 students will participate in a separate event to be held at Bishop Park on Tuesday 21st June. A newsletter with further details about this event will come home later in the week.

The Year 5-8 children will be running tomorrow at Williams Park as planned. They are to assemble at school no later than 8:50am and be walking to Days Bay with their teacher. We will begin with the Year 5 race at 9:40am with the last race being run approximately 11am. I recommend you send your child to school with a spare change of clothes in case the clothes and footwear they run in gets wet.

Regards

Matt

Zone Soccer Tornament

On Tuesday the 24th of May our footballers joined in to take part in the Year 5 and 6 Central Zone Football Tournament run by SportZone. The tournament was held at a very blustery Sladden Park in Petone.
Muritai had 4 teams participating (2 girls teams and 2 boys teams). A lot of great games were had and many superb goals were scored. Our players were fantastic and experienced many wins, draws and a few loses too.
The overall winning school was Waterloo, with Eastern Hutt took the fair play award - well done to those schools.
A special thanks to the parents who transported the children to and from the park, and to the supporters and team managers on the sideline.

Water Polo and Flippa Ball information for managers.

Hutt Water Polo School Leagues – please pass this info on to your coaches and managers:

Please check the draw on www.huttwaterpolo.org.nz as some changes have been made.

Player Registration forms are due by Tuesday, 24 May on the official form. Defaults will automatically be recorded against any individual team that has not electronically filed the attached player registration list in the official format after 24 May.

Player Eligibility:
· Entry into this competition is open to any individual primary, intermediate or secondary school comprising players who are full time students at the same school. An individual player can only be registered to play for one team.
· Players registered in a higher grade team cannot play down in a lower graded team. Players from a lower graded team can play up in a higher graded team to fill in if the Hutt Water Polo Club is advised prior to the game. Once a player has played up 3 times, they stay up.
A default will automatically be recorded against any team if a player plays for two teams, or a player plays up without us being advised before the game commences, or a player plays for a lower graded team. A deduction of two competition points will also occur for all defaults.
Default Fees apply for any defaults that are not advised to us within by 11 am on the preceding Tuesday.

Pool Entry Cost - Please ensure all your pupils are aware that they need to pay $2.00 cash to enter Naenae Pool. This needs to be in cash as we cannot accept pool concession tickets or Eftpos. Spectators and supporters – free entry

NO rash shirts, goggles, jewellery, wrist bands, watches, piercings etc are permitted to be worn in the water by any player

Caps – there is a supply of reversible hats in buckets poolside. White hats are always worn by the team named first in the draw. Please make sure that your players are ready to start play with their hats on at the scheduled time. We always strive to keep games running on time and ask that all players are ready in the water with caps on lined up against the goal line at the scheduled time.

An adult from each team is required to be sitting at the scoring table before each game commences. This applies to Secondary Schools games as well.

All players and coaches are to remain behind the 2 metre cones while a game is in progress. Substitutions can only be made from behind the 2 metre cone when players touch hands. Please refrain from talking to a referee during a game or obstructing the refs ability to walk freely poolside while officiating.

Defaults - We would appreciate early notification of defaults, but must receive an email direct to naenaecomp@huttwaterpolo.org.nz no later than 11 am on the preceding Tuesday. This enables us to inform the other team so pupils can be told before leaving school on Tuesday. Touch Rugby Sum-Up for Term 1 2011.

What a super Term it's been for touch rugby! All 5 teams played so well all season. I don't think we have had such great results in a long time.
Check out the results from the Finals Week.

Muritai Sharks won the Grand Final 4-3, so they finished in first place! Well done!!

Muritai Eagles lost the Grand Final (in extra time) 3-4 so they finished in second place. This team were stars, especially playing the Sharks (a year 6 team in the finals). Well done Eagles!!

Muritai Storm won the Grand Final 2-1, so they finished in first place! Super stuff Storm, you guys had a great season!

Muritai Flyers lost the Grand Final 3-5, so they finished in second place. Another great season from the Flyers!

Muritai Hurricanes won the play off for 3rd and 4th place 4-0, so they finish strongly in 3rd place. Great stuff Hurricanes!

A great season for all teams. I am looking forward to seeing you all back (and more players) for the Term 4 competition.

Its just not Cricket...

Muritai won the toss and elected to bowl first on a damp wicket at Te Whiti. McLeod and Gareth opened the bowling and did well to restrict runs at the early stages. Rupert came on at second change and achieved the marvellous figures of 3 for 18 from 4 overs. With a very good fielding effort, we managed to restrict a very strong Hutt Intermediate batting line-up to 109 for 6 from 20 overs. Well done to Liam for a catch and a stumping, Moss with a super catch and Piri for 1 for 12.

After refuelling, we struggled to 81 for 8 from 20 overs falling 28 runs short of the target and therefore out of the tournament. Liam top scored with 18 runs. The boys did very well to get so close to a strong Hutt Intermediate team, most of whom play for the Hutt Districts Premier Team.

Zone Swimming 2011

The Zone Swimming Sports took place on a beautiful autumns day at Naenae Pool.
Muritai took 32 swimmers ranging from year 4 children through to year 6 children.
Competition was tough as Wellesley, Chilton, Eastern Hutt, Boulcott, Waterloo and St Peter and Pauls also attended.
Muritai did very well and the children represented the school brilliantly.
We are unsure just how well we did, but we will hopefully find out by the end of the week.
The Inter-Zones take place next Wednesday, so if your child makes it through, there will be quite short notice.
Once again, thanks to the parents who came and helped out and the the parents who came in support. But especially well done to the swimmers who did a marvelous job.

Milo Cup Cricket

Muritai Vs St Bernards:

Muritai lost the toss and were sent in to bat. Gareth and Mcleod opened the batting with some great running between the wickets and scored 10 and 14 runs respectively. Liam was our top run scorer on 37 not out, with 4 four’s! Muritai scored 101 runs for 2 wickets in 16 overs.

Gareth and Mcleod opened the bowling each with a maiden over, with Rupert, Dorian and Kieran claiming one wicket each in their overs. An excellent catch by Piri, followed by Mcleod’s run out restricted St Bernard’s to a total of 60 for 5.

With Liam’s great wicket-keeping and Xavier and Jared’s focussed effort in the field, today was a super contribution by the entire team – well done boys!

Thank you to Carl for his umpiring skills and Liam’s brilliant leadership and commitment as skipper of the team! Well done to all the boys on a great effort, excellent sportsmanship and for being good ambassadors for Muritai School.
