Inter-regional cross country championships

Congratulations to our Wellington Cross Country Representatives for their outstanding effort at the Inter-regional cross country championships for primary and intermediate children held in Hanmer Springs on 25 September 2014.  We had some amazing results from our students.  Macey Caughley placed 2nd in the Year 7 girls race, Samantha Woolley placed 17th and Charlotte Humphries (former Muritai School student) placed 6th in the Year 6 girls race.

The Wellington team were able to retain the Phil Costley Shield.

ASB Girls Football

ASB girls Football Festival

Last Friday Muritai School entered 6 teams years 3-8 to play ‘girl’s only’ futsal (indoor football/soccer) at the ASB centre in Kilbirnie. Last week was New Zealand women's football week so we celebrated that as well. Each school was given a Football Fern (New Zealand’s women’s team) representative and we had to make up a banner supporting that football fern. We also made up a chant. Our Football Fern was Abby Erceg. We were also lucky to have a few under 20’s Football Ferns come and join in our games. All our teams did really well and we had a really fun and fantastic day.

ASB Girls Football Festival

Last week to celebrate Girl’s and Woman’s Week a large group of year 3-8 girls attended the Girl’s Football Festival.

The festival was held at the ASB Sports Centre in Kilbirnie and the 6 teams from our School had the opportunity to play against other schools throughout the Wellington region.

The girls also got to meet and play alongside a number of Football Ferns such as Lucy Stotter who use to attend Muritai School.

The girls had a fantastic time, many thanks to the parents that helped out on the day with transport and supervision.

UNICEF fair play event 2014

UNICEF NZ and Capital Football invited students to attend a Fair Play event at Memorial Park, Petone, on Tuesday September 9th.  It was also supported by the Wellington Phoenix.

This event was an opportunity for a group of students (Lea Pummer, Evie Wilson, Roan O'Sullivan and Joshy Apaapa-Preston) to meet professional sports players and learn from their experiences. Wellington Phoenix Players shared their experiences of sport in a Q & A session followed by a football skills and games session lead by Capital Football.

YEAR 5/6 CENTRAL ZONE
HOCKEY TOURNAMENT

On Tuesday members of the year 5/6 syndicate took part in the Central Zones Hockey Tournament at Fraser Park.
The boy’s squad played exceptionally well winning 5 out of their 6 games, scoring an average of 4 goals per game. The boys finished second in their grade.
The girl’s squad also played remarkably well, their structured game play and skill set allowed them to out-play their opponents to finish first in their grade.
The combined efforts of both teams meant that Muritai School finished first overall retaining the Central Zone Cup for the third year in a row. Thank you to all the parents that supported the students on the day.
